PilotFlight Watch and its iPhone/iPad companion

PilotFlight is built for Apple Watch with a supplemental PFD-style Flight Deck and MFD-style Live Map. Use the companion on iPhone or iPad to purchase, restore and manage access or view guidance, support and legal information. Actual paired/installed/reachable Watch status and pairing setup remain on iPhone.

Eligible new or returning subscribers who have not used a group offer can start Monthly or Annual with a 3-day free trial. It begins immediately without charge and renews to the App Store-localized standard plan unless canceled. Both plans and trials unlock the same complete Watch feature set; no separate guest/demo tier.

This universal iPad companion is part of PilotFlight Watch (Apple ID 6799999269). The separate standalone PilotFlight iPad aviation app (Apple ID 6799762166) uses different In-App Purchases and does not share this subscription or entitlement.

Requirements and first checks

  • Use a supported iPhone and compatible Apple Watch running at least the operating-system versions shown on the App Store.
  • Enable network access for live airport, METAR, TAF and hazard requests, and for the three optional fixed AkıncıJet map-package requests. Prepared local coverage remains usable offline.
  • Grant location permission in context for live position, flight metrics, route guidance and nearby-airport features.
  • Use an active verified PilotFlight Monthly or Annual subscription; without one, all Watch features remain locked.
  • On PilotFlight Watch, grant Apple Health permission only if you want the optional wellness summary or oxygen-awareness feature.

If a screen shows unavailable data, first confirm the device time, network connection and app permissions, then close and reopen that screen. PilotFlight intentionally displays missing, stale or low-accuracy states instead of replacing operational data with a hidden demo value.

Location, map or aircraft icon is unavailable

  1. Open Apple Settings and confirm PilotFlight has location access. Enable Precise Location when you want live navigation context.
  2. Move to an area with a clear view of the sky and wait for a current GPS fix.
  3. Check the accuracy or status text shown by PilotFlight. A stale or inaccurate fix is not presented as reliable live guidance.
  4. For Watch flight recording or background updates, confirm that a flight session is active or explicitly armed. End the session when you no longer need background location.

Use or troubleshoot Offline Maps

On Watch, swipe from Live Map to Offline Maps. Save the active route for a 25 NM corridor or a 50 NM area around the latest accurate GPS fix. A worldwide overview is included. You can download and delete each optional package independently:

  • Terrain HD — 31,379,456 bytes — Natural Earth · Public domain; source.
  • Visual HD — 625,291,264 bytes — NASA Earth Observatory · Blue Marble: Next Generation · Contains modified NASA imagery. It is May 2004 imagery, not live imagery; see the NASA source.
  • Atlas Pro — 3,732,973,284 bytes — © OpenStreetMap contributors · Protomaps 20260814. See OpenStreetMap attribution, ODbL 1.0 and the Protomaps source.

Keep Auto-switch offline on for automatic local-renderer fallback when network reachability is lost. Turn it off to choose manually. Keep offline map on is the manual override, including while connected. Open a saved item in Live Map to center it.

A shared 8 GiB quota and 512 MiB free-space reserve apply. The E174.1 available-disk-capacity check runs only on device; no disk-capacity value is uploaded. A fixed package request contains no route, saved-area bounds, location coordinates or disk-capacity value. Temporary delivery/security logs may contain the IP address, request timestamp, requested path or filename, HTTP status and user-agent; daily archive rotation currently preserves at least five generations. See the Privacy Policy.

Weather, hazards and map updates still need a connection. If detail is unavailable, the built-in overview and route/ownship coordinate grid remain available; PilotFlight rejects HTML error pages, modified files and packages that fail byte-count, SHA-256, format or source checks. All map packages are supplemental only—not primary navigation, aviation charts, terrain avoidance or live data.

Flight HSI/CDI, arrows or values do not move

GPS WAIT means a current location fix is not yet accurate enough for the associated live value. NO ACTIVE LEG means no Direct-To destination or route leg is active. These are real status states, not demo indications.

  1. Grant Precise Location and obtain a current GPS fix.
  2. Select a Direct-To airport or activate a leg in a saved plan.
  3. Move far enough for GPS to establish course and groundspeed. Direction based on GPS movement can remain unavailable while stationary.
  4. Confirm that TRK, bearing, distance and accuracy fields no longer show a waiting or unavailable state.

PilotFlight guidance is supplemental. Never use an app indication as a substitute for certified aircraft instruments or approved navigation sources.

METAR, TAF or airport data is unavailable

  1. Enter a valid four-letter ICAO code, such as KJFK or LTFM—not an airline code or a three-letter IATA code.
  2. Confirm the device has internet access.
  3. Check the station, observation time, age and source shown in the app.
  4. Try again after a short interval if AviationWeather.gov is temporarily unavailable or does not cover that report.

PilotFlight requests operational aviation data from AviationWeather.gov and labels missing, stale and failed results. It does not silently substitute built-in sample weather. Always verify time-critical weather and NOTAM information with current approved sources.

Low-blood-oxygen alert did not run

This section applies only to PilotFlight Watch. The optional feature is off by default and uses a 94% preset threshold that you can adjust from 80% to 99%.

  1. Confirm the feature is enabled in PilotFlight Watch and Apple Health read access is granted.
  2. Confirm Blood Oxygen is available on your Watch model and in your region.
  3. Confirm watchOS notifications, sounds and haptics are permitted; check Silent Mode and Focus.
  4. Wait for a new, supported-device reading. PilotFlight cannot start a measurement and ignores manually entered or older readings.

The app evaluates only a new eligible Apple Health sample no older than five minutes. Each qualifying low reading can cause at most one delivery: one two-second sound-and-haptic cue while the app is active, or one local notification if watchOS delivers it in the background. The same reading does not replay after a screen change or relaunch, and background delivery is not guaranteed.

Medical and flight-safety notice: PilotFlight does not continuously monitor oxygen, measure cabin pressure, prevent or diagnose hypoxia, provide emergency service, or determine fitness to fly. If you feel unwell or suspect an emergency, follow applicable aviation procedures and contact qualified medical or emergency services.

Subscribe, restore or manage

Open PilotFlight on iPhone or iPad to purchase Monthly or Annual, choose Restore Purchases, or manage the subscription. Eligible users receive a 3-day free trial; StoreKit shows eligibility, localized standard price and period before confirmation.

There is no purchase control on Apple Watch. After iPhone purchase/restore, open Watch; live reachability is not required. After iPad purchase/restore, keep Watch online on the same Apple Account. If Watch remains locked, tap Retry Subscription Check once. Subscriptions renew unless canceled in Apple Account subscription settings. Deleting the app does not cancel.

App Store subscription selection opens the matching plan in the universal companion. Apple Watch unlocks only after strict entitlement verification.

Apple-controlled offer-code or Apple Account redemption may still occur on Apple surfaces. Any resulting Watch access still requires a verified entitlement; there is no Watch purchase interface or free-access path.

See the Apple Standard Terms of Use (EULA).

Delete local data or reset permissions

Plans, saved offline coverage, installed Terrain HD, Visual HD and Atlas Pro packages, settings, flight records, notes and tracks are stored locally. Use each package’s independent delete control or the relevant in-app delete control for other content. Deleting PilotFlight may remove retained local containers according to Apple platform behavior and may not remove copies present in Apple-controlled backups. Deleting the app does not cancel an active subscription.

Location, Apple Health and notification permissions can be reviewed or revoked in Apple Settings. PilotFlight Watch does not delete Apple Health samples recorded by Apple Watch; those samples are managed in Apple Health.

Operational and safety limits

PilotFlight is a supplemental planning and situational-awareness aid. It is not a certified navigation or primary flight instrument, aviation chart, approved weather or NOTAM briefing source, medical monitor, emergency service, terrain-, obstacle- or airspace-clearance system, or guaranteed background-alert service.

Before and during flight, verify calculations, position, route, airport, weather and aircraft-performance information with approved aircraft documents, current official sources, applicable procedures and pilot judgment.
